No More Room in Hell 2 Zombie Types: All 8 Enemies Explained

No More Room in Hell 2 fields eight enemy types, and the sequel's roster is meaner than the original's. The core rule: two charged melee strikes to the head drop any normal zombie — with two big exceptions (Prime Zombies, and anything wearing armor). Here's every type, its tell, and the counter.

Walkers

Threat: Low alone, deadly in packs

The standard shuffler. Two charged headshots drop any normal zombie type. Numbers are the real danger — never let a pack corner you.

Runners

Threat: High

Look identical to Walkers but sprint, with rapid screams as their tell. They spawn more when you fire unsuppressed weapons and in high-danger zones — and can also appear as armored variants (Firefighter, Riot Police). Since the 0.8 Genesis update, Runners can also spawn as Primes: faster, tougher and harder-hitting all at once.

Shamblers

Threat: High — priority target

Skeletal, wrapped in a visible gas cloud. If one spots you it builds to a horde-summoning scream — kill it fast. The corpse vents infectious gas for ~20 seconds: stay out, and watch for gas-coated zombies whose hits infect at a much higher rate.

Prime Zombies

Threat: Very high

Blood-soaked with glowing red eyes — recently fed, so the virus runs hotter: more damage dealt, more damage soaked. The one type the two-charged-headshot rule does not cover.

Construction Workers

Threat: Medium

Walkers in hardhats. The helmet eats about two melee strikes before headshots register — knock it off first or aim body-level with firearms.

Firefighters

Threat: Medium — exploitable

Full turnout gear with helmet and oxygen tank. Damage the tank and it squeals, then explodes — killing every zombie close by. Free crowd control if you bait a pack around one.

Riot Police

Threat: High

Full body armor, sometimes riot shields — both highly resistant to melee and bullets. Break the armor with sustained hits before expecting kills; do not waste scarce calibres on the shield.

Army Zombies

Threat: Very high — hardest armor in the game

Added in the 0.5.0 Broadway update: full military gear, heavily armored and built to soak punishment. High-penetration calibres (the 0.9 firearm rework tuned penetration specifically around helmets and shields) or sustained armor-breaking are the only realistic answers — walking away is often the right call.

Spawn behavior worth knowing

What about child zombies?

A frequently searched question with an official answer: there are no child zombies in No More Room in Hell 2. Torn Banner confirmed in August 2025 — alongside the 1.0 delay announcement — that child zombies "will not be present in the final product." Anything you've seen on that front was early data-mining speculation, not shipped content.

Armor-breaking and one-shot breakpoints per weapon are on the weapons tier list, and the full stat database is on the weapons page.
