No More Room in Hell 2 Best Builds & Loadouts (1.0)
A "build" here = your Responder's profession start + the skills you take at levels 5–50 + the loadout you buy with credits. Four lanes have clear community consensus after the 1.0 balance pass — and one system rule shapes them all: if your Responder dies, their equipped loadout purchases die with them.
The four proven lanes
1. Shotgun juggernaut (co-op crowd control)
Skills: Overkill + Tight Shot (the pair that takes shotguns "over the top" — long-standing community consensus), plus Icarus for range. Weapons: 590A1 pump; Fierra DB12 only as a limb-severing sidearm. Start: Sheriff or Deputy. Weakness: 12ga scarcity — take Scavenger when offered.
2. Heavy rifle marksman (.308 lane)
Skills: Steel Chamber (Expert = "vastly more" damage) + Penetrating Shot + Eagle Eye. Weapons: M14 Battle Rifle; Hunter 85 until it drops; M7A1 if you find one — it headshots reds in one. Start: Designated Marksman. Corridor hordes melt; ammo weight is the tax (Vulture helps).
3. Melee economy (the default solo lane)
Skills: Athlete + Marathon Runner + Thick Skin (Guts left the pool at 1.0), then Hitman (one-handed) or Hard Blow/Rush (two-handed). Weapons: Fire Axe or Sledgehammer as primary "gun", Hatchet for flashlight compatibility. Start: Track Star / Football MVP. Quietest lane in the game — Runners spawn on gunfire, and you're not firing.
4. Squad medic (8-player glue)
Skills: Stayin' Alive + Skilled Medic + Acquired Immunity, Thick Skin filler. Loadout: Bandages early; Medkit (acct 22), Phalanx Pills (acct 42) as you unlock. Start: Paramedic or Nurse. In full lobbies, the fastest reviver decides wipes.
How loadout unlocks work
- Loadout slots unlock items by account level, character level, or Nightmare prestige — recorded Early Access thresholds ran from Kitchen Knife (acct 3, 2,000 credits) up to Gene Therapy (acct 100 + char 40 + Nightmare 50, 20,000 credits).
- Once unlocked, items stay unlocked account-wide — but equipped purchases are lost when that Responder dies and must be re-bought.
- 1.0's wipe moved progression to Assignments & Merits, so exact thresholds are being re-mapped by the community; credit costs have held so far. We'll update as 1.0 numbers firm up.
Loadout priorities on a budget
Cheap and run-defining, in order: a melee upgrade (never spawn with just the Small Pipe again — 2,000 credits), Bandages, Flashlight Batteries (500), then calibre packs for your lane. Big-ticket items (Revive Syringe, Gene Therapy) are squad investments — buy them on a Responder you intend to keep alive.
